Alter gaiters to puttees to use as72nd Highlanders (Duke of Albany’s Own Highlanders) in the 2nd Afghan War 1978-80: Winter kit khaki / buff helmet cover and tunic. Trews of Royal Stuart tartan (predominantly red with blue and white lines), worn both winter and summer. Pipers only with kilts. White knapsacks. Officers brown leather equipment and puttees of the same Stuart tartan as trews. Other ranks had white rifle slings and belts with black rear pouch. They still wore old equipment so would have had greatcoat banderole-style.
